Riding high with the Sandugo fever

With the Sandugo fever all over the nooks and crannies of this city, this Bglante cannot help but join the exodus of who will say a thing or two re: the month-long festivities. What we have in mind is a thesis dedicated to Mayor Dan Neri Lim who is this year's Sandugo chairman. Knowing the character of this man as a go-getter, it is no wonder then that he did make waves when he assumed the role of Sandugo big boss. He started with a bang and will end with another bang. That's Dan Lim for you as he calls the shots of Sandugo 2006.

Why this glowing brief on Mayor Dan Lim? The reason my friend is because this year's Sandugo is Dan Lim's last hurrah and he is doing his best shot like no other. And what a way to say goodbye to an otherwise heralded Sandugo chairmanship. For one, Dan Lim's Sandugo term is hard to replicate. To the uninitiated, it will take another Dan Lim to duplicate a feat never been experienced in the history of the Sandugo.

Take this for size. For starters, this year's Sandugo sees the appearance in the streets of Tagbilaran all the street dancing champions of all known festivals in the Visayas and Mindanao . Bringing in these champions in one setting is no mean feat. Not even in the wildest imagination of organizers of Sandugos past was a festival of champions contemplated to be staged in one venue.

There are many other “firsts” that Dan Lim introduced in this year's Sandugo but we beg off to remain silent because they are too many that we lose count. But it is enough that thru the city mayor's Sandugo leadership, he was able to bring in here the street dancing festival champions like the Basakanon (Cebu City) Hambabalud (Jimalalaud, Negros Oriental), Maskara (Bacolod City) Dinagyang (Iloilo City), Ati-atihan (Kalibo, Aklan), and Sinanduloy (Tangub City) It is also to Mayor Lim's credit that this year's Sandugo has the most number of participating street dancing contingents in the contest category numbering 40. By all indications, Lim's Sandugo will go down in history as beyond compare. Anybody who will fill in his Sandugo shoes will find out that it's too big for comfort.
