Pupil rocks Battle of the Bands Finals |
By: David S. Maulas |
THE Pupil, one of the nation's top alternative bands, rocks the Battle of the Bands Grand Finals at the CPG Sport Complex tonight immediately after the Sandugo Street Dancing and Reenactment. Former Eraserheads' member Ely Buendia with guitarist Yan Yuzon, bassist Dok Sergio and drummer Boks Jugo will inspire budding local bands with their hybrid music as the battle comes to a close. After the seven-day series of elimination, only seven bands are left from about thirty contenders to vie for the lone Grand Champion slot. Banging of heads and stringing of guitars started July 16 to July 22 at the Tagbilaran City Tourist Port , with at most five bands competing every night. Rendition of six warm-up songs of their choice was required from each band prior to singing their original composition, depicting Boholano Culture, Arts, Values and Tourism. Criteria for judging on the original composition are Instrumentality (20%), Originality (20%), Message and Lyrics (30%), Delivery and Performance (20%), and Audience Impact (10%). Sponsored by the Bohol Sandugo Foundation, Inc. (BSFI) in partnership with San Miguel Beer Corporation and Save ‘N Earn Wireless, the event aims to develop homegrown talents and encourage youth to explore the musical field instead of devoting idle time to non-productive activities. The event is officially managed by the city's premier events and promotions specialist, K&N Productions. |
