Lifeguards add to Panglao services

ooINCHING its way to be acknowledged the destination with world class facilities and services, Bohol moves up a notch as the members of the Association of Lifeguards of Panglao take their oath and assumed responsibility as lifeguards at the Jjs Seafoods on June 28. Panglao's fine sandy beaches and often crowded by people practically supports Bohol 's vision of eco-cultural tourism as its main driver. Tourism however is an overly sensitive industry that fluctuates with just a small incident.

The move to train lifeguards to ahndle situations came amidst apprehensions that tourism without unified support would collapse. The Panglao lifeguards came at the right time. The oath taking ceremony preludes the awarding of certificates in First Aid, Basic Life Support and Water Safety from the Philippine National Red Cross. “It was not easy to take life guarding training but it was so fulfilling because it deals in lifesaving underwater and in any situation as such” said one recipient of certificates.

In behalf of Gov. Erico Aumentado who was then in Europe , Lawyer Tomas Abapo, the provincial administrator together with the Panglao Mayor Dr. Doloreich Dumaluan announced their appreciation and encouragement's to the officers and members of the Association and assured them to full support. Before they got their certificates, participants were Oriented on the Red Cross History, Chapter Services and Emblem dissemination.

Sworn as officers are: President; Jomel Lopez, Vice-President; Aldwin Cespon, Secretary; Richard Cloma, Treasurer; John Vincent Banlaygas, Auditor, Jan Michael dela Peña and Sergeant at Arms; Giovanni Nagaliza and Pedro Ramones. Members are Raymund Mabini Katalbas IV, Normandy Lamagna, Renante Hora while adviser is Red Cross Bohol Administrator Rita Requeron. The induction was also highlighted by a buffet party and socialization followed by presentation of talents.
