P1-M road rehab to spur economy in remote brgy of San Miguel town

SAN MIGUEL - Governor Erico Aumentado and second district Representative Roberto Cajes inaugurated a farm-to-market road here could haul a remote barangay from the pit of poverty. Governor Aumentado, Rep. Cajes and Mayor Silvino Evangelista delivered messages that recognized the benefits of having partnership between the community and Kapit-Bisig Kaban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) which helped the national government deliver public service.

At the tune of P1.119 million, an improved barangay road paved the way for commerce to course through the remote barangay of San Jose from the Poblacion. Residents believe that the improvement of the barangay road would make hauling of farm produce to the market and transporting sick persons to the hospital easier, and abate road accidents involving habal-habal drivers. The road improvement project, which is a sub-project of the KALAHI-CIDSS first cycle in barangay San Jose , was undertaken through the major financial assistance of the KALAHI-CIDSS and Rep. Cajes.

Of the total cost of P1,119,994, KALAHI-CIDSS contributed P835,994, while Cajes gave P100,000. Community counterpart was P8,800, as the barangay appropriated P75,000 for the project, while the municipal government allocated P94,000. Among those who showed up at the inauguration ceremony were Kagawad Jorge Reboldad who led the invocation, Vitaliana Bumaya who led the singing of the national anthem and the Bohol Hymn, San Jose Barangay Captain Efren Reboldad who gave the welcome address and acknowledged the guests.

The chairperson of the Barangay Sub-Project Management Committee (BSPMC), Jovino Nuez was also there to deliver the turn-over speech, while Barangay Captain Reboldad gave the acceptance speech. A community volunteer also shared a testimony. Then Vice-Mayor Bonior gave the closing message. Barangay Kagawads Medardo Almedilla, Olympio Amolata, Cipriano Hinampas, Lope Almedilla, Joel Plasos, and Joel Evangelista also showed up to support the project, together with barangay treasurer Teresita Gonzales, barangay secretary Jose Saba and SK Chairman Ruel Tapasao.

The KALAHI-CIDSS allocated a total of P5.4 million per cycle or P16.2 million for the three cycles of project implemented in the town of San Miguel.

KALAHI-CIDSS: Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KC:KKB) is a flagship poverty alleviation project of the national government implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which also facilitates funding assistance from the World Bank. KC-KKB is a revolutionary approach to poverty alleviation that addresses economic, social and cultural dimensions of poverty. It also aims to empower citizens through enhanced participation in community activities and projects. The KALAHI-CIDSS first cycle in barangay San Jose ranked 3rd during the MIBF with an over-all score of 87 percent , wherein the average household participation rated 83 percent for the barangay assemblies. The total local counterpart contribution generated 27 percent for the sub-project. Project beneficiaries also include barangays Tomoc, Camanaga, Capayas and Garcia.
