Ubay, Bien Unido, HNU observe Jagna ISWM

JAGNA-The local government unit here hosted the Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) of Ubay, local officials of the Bien Unido and students of the Holy Name University who expressed interest on the municipality's the Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM). Local officials allocated a one-day briefing for each group of visitors as to the technology adopted for the municipality's ISWM.

The Ubay group was scheduled last February 24, the Bien Unido officials on February 26, while the Physical Education major students of HNU had their briefing on the 27th.

The local officials here extended appreciation to the HNU students and Barnette Edsel Tatad, PE instructor of HNU being the first group from an educational institution to observe the municipality's environmental program. In their letter-requesst, Tatad cited that “they want to know the basic method adopted by the LGU in dealing with classic environmental concern on clean water and waste disposal for the students to learn of the basic responsibility of passing to the next generation, a better environment than the one we enjoy at present”.

For the part of the local officials of Bien Unido, it was a good experience to gain insights as they are planning to introduce the Ecological Solid Waste Management Program in their municipality, thereby hoping to find ways and solutions to their environmental problems at their own level. Bien Unido Mayor Marianita Garcia and Vice Mayor Bernardino Garcia led the group together with MLGOO Adonis Damalerio, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members, department heads, barangay captains and their respective barangay secretaries.

Moreover, Bien Unido municipal councilors also requested for an opportunity to learn from the 5th SB members of this municipality about the various legislative programs and measures implemented here which earned for the legislative body the prestigious Local Legislative Award in the Central Visayas Region and eventually qualifying as a finalist to the national level. The Ubay group also checked out the latest agricultural technology adopted in this town aside from observing the ISWM. The MAFC of Ubay led by DA technician Leonarda Rojo also visited the cutflower, vegetable, bungan-variety of banana and ubi production here and other identified LGUs.
