Suspected drug runner arrested in checkpoint

A suspected drug personality was arrested after policemen manning a checkpoint found him in possession of illegal drugs. The suspect was identified as one Paul Abellana alias Polpol, 26, a resident of Belderol St. Tagbilaran City, He was arrested about 10 pm last Feb. 28 in a checkpoint near the city fish terminal in Sitio Ubos, Causeway. Seized from Abellana's possession were a transparent cellophane containing suspected shabu, a P500 bill, 21 P100 bills, two cellular phones and nubain.

SPO4 Adriano Bacus of the Tagbilaran PNP said Abellana came from Dauis town and was believed to have returned from a delivery. The policemen became suspicious when Abellana tried to hide something and did not want the cops to draw closer. When he was frisked, the prohibited substance was found inside a violet glass case. A case of illegal possession of prohibited drugs was being prepared for filing against the suspect. It was gathered that this was not Abellana's first arrest. His first case however was dismissed. Abellana is a son of slain drug underling Buenaventura Abellana who was killed by a syndicate personality seven years ago. He is a cousin of Tagbilaran Sangguniang Kabataan chair Frances Marnelli Abellana. Mayor Dan Lim said he is deeply disappointed with the younger Abellana who should have learned from the death of his father.
