‘Dream port', road project inaugurated in Cabilao Island |

Countryside development in the first congressional district is moving at a fast pace. This may accelerate even faster following the official unveiling of what Congressman Edgar M. Chatto and local officials call a ‘dream port' and a farm-to-market road project in Cabilao island in Loon town recently. The port is a dream come true for the island folks who, before, have to step on slippery rocks in the shore before going to the mainland, and in transporting agricultural products to the town proper. Cong. Chatto led the inauguration and blessing of the major infrastructure projects. He was assisted by DPWH District Engr. Celestino Adlaon, Loon Mayor Cesar Tomas Lopez, Vice Mayor Edwin Ladeza, Sangguniang Bayan members, and barangay officials. “The dream port and the farm-to market road will surely facilitate the movement of goods and people, particularly agricultural products which are the life-blood of our economy,” Chatto said in his message. Cabilao, a four square kilometer islet, has five barangays namely: Cambaquiz, Talisay, Pantudlan, Cabacongan and Looc. The port and road projects, both located at Barangay Talisay, are believed to enhance economic activities which in turn will provide economic benefits and opportunities for the folks in the island, where agricultural activities are recurring on a daily basis. Chatto also inspected the almost-completed seaport project in Cambaquiz, which shall serve as an alternative fish and docking port of people coming from the mainland. Once completed, it can be used to transport vehicles to Cabilao passing through the Cambaquiz road. Municipal and barangay officials lauded the first district solon in bringing beneficial projects, especially to the rural areas. Chatto has always emphasized the importance of rural development projects, where the inclusion of port and road components is of great help to accelerate and enhance the production linkages especially in the countryside. Local officials view the infrastructure projects as major additions since tourists are also visiting Cabilao, the island being considered as among the dive jewels in the world. An intact underwater world surrounding the island makes it a perfect dive spot for divers. |
