GSIS opens pension distribution hub here

By: Gregorio Tavera

JAGNA – AVERTING another discomfort for old-age pensioners, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) now opens a once-a-month pension distribution center (PDC) here.

A GSIS policy which asks pensioners to personally show up to claim their checks has dealt in a hassle last week with the agency's failure to mail all checks for budgetary constraints. With the new PDC here, pensioners, some of them uncomfortable in taking long rides to the Tagbilaran City field office, need not go the long trek. They can now claim their pensions at the Jagna distribution centers to open at the Municipal Hall. Similar centers are also opened in six different towns of the province.

Concerned pension recipients, GSIS provincial office said, are advised to keep posted of the different schedules when their respective centers open for a day. Jagna, where GSIS center two is set serves seven towns: Dimiao to Anda operates on July 11. GSIS Tagbilaran representatives only visit the center to systematically distribute the checks to the rightful claimants. The center space has earlier been authorized by Mayor Exuperio Lloren.

In Jagna, the center would be at the ground floor of the municipal hall, says by Malou Tan-Jumawan, administrative officer. With this development, pensioners served by Jagna has already aired relief, citing less expense and more efficient service, even before the center is yet to hone its operations here. With lesser claimants needing immediate attention, pensioners expect better service.

Jagna, like those of the six designated centers across the province enjoys the services of banks, which pensioners can use to encash their checks. Unclaimed pensioners checks from beneficiaries within the town would be brought back to Tagbilaran and mailed as usual, GSIS said.
