Talibon enlists students' help In population management |

TALIBON – PRESSING for the total emancipation from poverty, authorities looking at population as critical human factor jointly call for more education to fully inform the people its rights, and then hopefully to allow them the power to manage their families better. Mayor Juanario Item, a strong advocate on population management also called the students and the youth being the hope of the fatherland to get involved and support the program of population management. He asked students to help disseminate the information and urge parents to adapt natural method of family planning like birth spacing. During the World Population Day Celebration here, authorities jointly tapped the youth as the most potent factor to cause a dent on population and its proper management. Calls for the youth to focus on their studies, to stay away from vices such as drugs, drinking hard liquor and smoking were also echoed. Roxanna Epe, United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) Provincial Project Coordinator then challenged the youth to do their share in the nation building and to work collectively to fight poverty problem. She reminded the youth on their rights to education, shelter, balanced food, clothing, express their opinions or ideas and live peacefully as the foundations of informed decisions affecting their lives in the future. Talibon joined the whole world in the celebration when it held its program at the Carlos P. Garcia Multi-purpose center July 11. The program adopted the theme “young people”. Simple but fitting activities were conducted participated in by the teachers and students of different secondary schools of the town. A parade participated in by all teachers and students of secondary schools like San Jose National High School (SJNHS), Blessed Trinity College (BTC) and Bohol Institute of Technology International College (BITIC) was conducted to start the celebration. The program happened after the parade. Selected students of BTC performed the invocatory dance while the municipal band played the national and Bohol hymns. Representatives from the different high schools students were called for impromptu speeches to give their views and ideas on World Population Day. The program was successfully conducted with the cooperation of local officials and the UNPFA staff. |
