Oyster congress features Lectures, demos, display |
BOHOL Oyster Congress promises to be a day of lectures, demonstrations and product display as it opens at the Agricultural Promotion Center here, July 18. Adopting the theme,”Talaba: Pagkaing Masustansya; Pagkaing Pangmasa”, the congress which opens with a program at 9 is envisioned to further popularize oyster culture as an alternative and sustainable livelihood for river communities. With this, the congress puts in lectures on the situationer of oyster industry, technology updates, market linkages and other product lines of oyster as well as the demonstration on oyster sauce making take the halls. On to give their first-hand experiences are two successful oyster growers who will be giving their personal testimonies as lecture inputs. In Bohol , according to the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), each oyster producing Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) is asked to display fresh or salted or new packaged oyster products on booths provided. Organizers said each oyster producing municipality are invited to send at least 10 to a maximum of 15 participants. The congress is spearheaded by the Provincial Government through the Provincial Agriculture Office. With them are the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), BFAR-Regional Fisheries Training Center (RFTC), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI), and oyster farming towns of Inabanga, Buenavista, Getafe, Talibon, Bien Unido, Trinidad, Ubay, Mabini, Candijay, and Calape. |
