Acts of Pride

THIS week, we were able to hear and see for ourselves on nationwide television, the humiliation, hurt and anger of mayors and governors who were adversely affected by the so-called massacre of local government executives. We were also able to witness the acts of pride and arrogance of present–day Malacañang overlords led by DILG Secretary Puno and his cabal of generals. One of them even had the gall of commending the PNP raiders of the Iloilo capitol for what he called the lack of bloodshed in taking over the provincial government office. And this statement was made in front of venerable senators who undertook a legislative inquiry into the brazen act of terrorism.

Something ought to be done to cut down to size those in government who think that power gives them the license to intimidate, corrupt and even kill people. One can only shudder at the hundreds of unsolved extra-judicial assassinations committed upon hapless citizens with the government itself as suspect. Maybe, just maybe, the Filipino people can respond to these despicable acts through their ballots come May 2007.

It is said that every word we say on earth is heard in heaven. But we see in our midst a culture that is steeped in lies, gossip, off-color jokes and vulgar comments that spare no one. The worst part of it is the disrespect of God's name even in the lyrics of some popular rock music. Old foggies like me could only look back to the yesteryears when the lyrics of the songs then were as sweet as their melody. Today's world seems to be some strange territory indeed.

By the way, we were able to attend the induction affair of FGBMFI Bohol chapter at the Bohol Tropics last January 22nd, courtesy of our cousin, Joshua Sales Namoc, its new president. This guy Joshua, is the epitome of humility. Congratulations! Gospel quote: “Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth? Galatians 4:16
