Sagbayan kid wins Cebu Pop Festival

THE latest Cebu Pop-Music star is a Boholana.

Showing her mite amidst the field well dominated by giants in the local music industry, an 11-year old girl from Canmaya Norte, Sagbayan town sang her way to glory as she romped with the first prize in the recent 27th Cebu Pop Music Festival. Many could not have imagined how Genevieve Abuloc barged into the field often reigned by widely popular singers across the Visayas, but when Boholana wonder began belting out her lyrics, everybody knew she had it, hands down.

The music festival is an annual competition of popular music and compositions by the region's top musicians. It is also timed as another of the many highlights of the celebration of the Sinulog, the main highlight of the feast of Santo Nino. Abuloc bagged the top honors of the music festival after she did a flawless rendition of “Bakho sa Anghel”. Frederick Villarojo composed the song while the lyricist was Gwendolyn S. Cresencio. The youngest of the 12 contestants, Abuloc, before bagging the pop award, was a grand finalist of the Little Big Star of ABS-CBN – Cebu .. Her recent feat also impressed anew the raw talent and nerve that Boholanos could reap, given the right exposure.
