The newsmaker factor where nobody comes close |
|
We feel sorry to those who insinuated that the reason we gave too much radio time to lawyer Victor de la Serna because we are being paid for it. Time and again, let it be emphasized here that our radio slot is not for sale and therefore any attempt to bribe us is out of order. Besides, we value so much our credibility that any tinge of suspicion that we are on the take is anathema to the program's ethical standards. It is for this reason that modesty aside, we survived this long in the highly competitive media business because we know how to say no when bribery becomes the order of the day in our chosen profession. Now back to our ever-ready accommodation to de la Serna's role as a resource person to our radio program Cuentas Claras. To the uninitiated, it is never an understatement that nobody can hold a candle to de la Serna's flair in public speaking. Not to mention the fact that he is a newsmaker par excellence. No wonder, he is the toast of radio anchors because every time he opens his mouth, it's always a good copy to newsmen, he is the newsmaker's newsmaker. The newsmaker factor in Victor is the big difference. Listen to him, whether he is spewing verbal lava to drive home a point or he is rattling off vignettes of history, de la Serna is primus inter pares. This may explain why even if he talks all day long in the different radio programs in town, there's never a dull moment because it is de la Serna who is doing the talking. For variety purposes, radio anchors would be too happy to accommodate other radio talents in the mold of dela Serna. But nobody comes close. Tell this Bglante of anybody who has the guts, intestinal fortitude and the gift of tongue of a de la Serna, and we are too willing to welcome him with open arms over the radio air lanes. Trouble is, we are yet to find one who can fill in the shoes of de la Serna who is too big for comfort to those who would like to follow his footsteps as the man of the hour in the radio air lanes. |
