Last week, we touched on the Sinoog and Ms Globalik contest in the 375th anniversary of the founding of Jagna as a parish and consequently as a town. The issue mentioned of the misunderstanding between the organizers, participants and choreographers. The choreographers did not like what was printed; they preferred to just keep the matters within the community. However, this is already common knowledge and many would like to know the cause.

Before press time last week, we were looking for the organizers, but they were out of office. We could not locate the choreographers either but we had a copy of the school authorities' letter regarding the Sinoog. There were various reactions from informed sources and from a random survey of public opinion. As usual, there are pros and cons to the matter. We found out there was no proper understanding between the organizers, choreographers and participants. We would attribute these to organizational and procedural lapses. Since fingers were pointing to all directions, so as not to throw gasoline into the fire, we would just .let things be.

Now for the Ms. Globalik. In a press conference, Mrs. Nimfa Lloren explained that no contestant backed out after the last canvassing. No loss was incurred by the organizers There were no backing out after the first canvassing either. Entries were still accepted after the first canvassing but not before the second to the last counting. What was considered to be backing out was an expat from SoCSarGen. She may had declared an interest in joining but could not make it on time to the canvassing since she had her hands full in running their freight and transporting business. Despite that, she was said to have donated something for the celebration. In effect, there was no loss in her not participating.

Now for the crowning ceremony. Information from several members of the audience said that the winners were made to climb up the stage to the seats or throne. What the choreographer might have overlooked is that stairs and trailing gowns is not a good combination. For an elderly, the stairs could be considered steep. However, escorts were provided plus helping hands offered while on the way to the seat or throne. The choreographer offered to a winner and easy way of access. Whether the offer was accepted, we do not know. However, it is logical to assume that it was rejected so this winner would not stand out from the others, an admission of infirmity.

If the winners were really feeble, they have to be seated before the curtains will go up. Since the stage had no curtains, the lights will have to be turned off until the winners are fully seated. However, it would be an uneventful presentation. That will be just like posing for a photograph. The only accolade each will receive is during the introduction of each winner.

An informal poll was made on the Globalik. Many considered it a success. Some say it was okay, whatever that means. Some say it could use some improvement but cannot specify what. There were one or two gripers saying it was a flop. Still there were others who had no opinion. They did not go to the show. Someone has to tell the choreographers that you cannot win them all. Brickbats go with the territory.
