By: Onad Munalem |
TALIBON – BRAVING into more aggressive rice production by irrigation supported ricelands in the town, Talibon Mayor Juanario Item inked the Memorandum of Agreement with the National Irrigation Administration for more lateral canals to deliver irrigation services here. Mayor Item, representing the local government unit Item signed the MOA with NIA as represented by Engr. Modesto Membreve, Officer in charge project manager for Bohol Irrigation Project II at the Mayor's Office September 28. The MOA signing had Engr. Nito Flores, municipal engineer and Mario delos Reyes, OIC of Talibon SRIP as witnesses during the event. The MOA, which puts Talibon as direct beneficiary of a P10M project would also allow the town to implement the main and lateral canal A and A1 and appurtenant canal structures of the Talibon Small Reservoir Irrigation Project located at Barangay Zamora here. The project cost is 10M allocated for the completion of the canal. Earlier, Councilor Epifanio Quimson, Talibon Sangguniang Bayan member passed resolution number 2006-114 which authorizes Mayor Item to sign the MOA. In support to the MOA, the SB again passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Item and municipal treasurer Rosalina Felisilda, to open cash account at Land Bank of the Philippines solely for the main and the lateral canals. The signing also formalizes the civil works for the water sluice gates and conduits that would soon bring to Barangay Zamora the most needed irrigation waters to flood on to its ricelands to effect at least three croppings per year. The realization of the agreement was also through the efforts of Mayor Item, Congressman Roberto Cajes and Governor Erico Aumentado. |
