Dimiao opens Crafts center

By: Katherine M. Berondo, MPIO

DIMIAO – NATIONAL Tourism Week Celebration here capped with a big event here as the town opened its products showcase center right at the heart of the town. No less than Bohol Tourism Officer Oroncia Balio graced the occasion for the Provincial Tourism Office. The center is set and styled native Filipino accents and is filled to the rafters with fashion accessories from bracelets, necklaces and earrings from different provisions, colors to bangles, bags and hats all made from locally sourced raw materials. At the opening day, the accessories crafted from coconuts had “fashionistas” agog as evidenced by the sales during the day. To the local's delight, they saw that even, Balio their guest was unable to resist the pretty necklaces. She went home later with a bunch of them. The display center is an all-in-one fashion store where pretty fashion accessories are being complemented with garments, which are locally made and manufactured.

In Dimiao, there is an edge, the fashion creations match those done by nationally known designers. The display center is a market outlet of the products of Dimiao and is a venue where every Dimiaonon can display and exhibit their products. The project is intended to develop and encourage the entrepreneurial skills of the people and provide jobs to jobless parents and out-of-school youths, local authorities said. This display center, now a reality was a pet project of the former Mayor, now the First Lady, Lawyer Sylvia Adame. She adopted the concept immediately after the recent visit to Dimiao's sister city, Marikina. Moved to discover the small businesses potential of involving women and out-of-school youths, the first lady hit the first nail barely three weeks after the Marikina trip. That day was also the coming to life of a concept called the Dimiao products showcase center, aimed to help families improve their lot on to economic stability. The place now becomes an additional attraction of the town, now considered as tourist destination in Bohol.
