JAGNA - THE much dreamt-of port expansion for Bohol 's gateway to Mindanao is finally steaming. This as the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has announced the availability of the P54M funds appropriated by Representative Eladio Jala for Jagna port expansion. PPA Manager Juan Arawiran recently called a coordination meeting June 2 for agencies concerned with the port operations as he disclosed that the earmarked P54M fund for the port project is now available.

Representing Jagna Local Government Unit during the meeting were Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members Senen Lloren, Jesus Acedillo, Godofredo Okit, Pacheco Ll. Rances, Victorino Nayga Sr. and Andrew Tadena. Also invited were Edgar Tiu of the Carlos Gothong Lines, Agrecio Jamisola of the Sulpicio Lines, Nardo Acedillo of the Cebu Ferry and Nilo Feraren of the Jagna Arrastre and Terminal Services, Inc. (JATSI).

The meeting the groups concerned for the operation of the port also came as the national government, through the PPA wanted to further streamline the port operations to maximize income and cut on wastes. The programmed work shared by the PPA for Jagna port includes the expansion, which also standardizes the terminal facilities for better and more efficient services.

This development allows the commuting public some convenience and may translate into increased collection for the government coffers. The blueprint presentation of the whole project through Engr. Mario Cenabre of the Cagayan de Oro based contracting firm was also met with questions through SB members Acedillo, who is an engineer and Rances who is also an architect. With few suggestions proposed by local experts, representatives of the construction firm agree to the implement slight improvements with permission from Manila.
