Talibon opens 16 SPES slots

TAKING part in the national government's Special Program for the Education of Students (SPES), Talibon Mayor Juanario Item said that are opening up 16 slots to help the poor but deserving students pursue their college education. In a recent statement, Mayor Item said the program should help its students get the right immersion into the government work environment as the town opens up slots to all qualified college students whose work will commence this coming May 2, and end on May 29.

Applicants however need to be 15 years old and not more than 25 years of age, must have no failing grades during his last year or semester attended. Moreover, to screen off those from better earning families, income of parents including his own must not exceed P36,000 after tax deductions.

Applicants are then advised to register at the office of Public Employment and Service Office (PESO) manager. He should also be bringing with him his original copy of birth certificate, report card duly signed by the school principal for high school graduates or final grade of last semester attended duly signed by the school registrar for college students. All qualified applicants will be assigned to work as Municipal Street and Plaza Cleaner. The nature of job will serve as an advance on-the-job training of the students.

Under the program, the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) shares in the student employees' salary. This allows the student employees to get 60 percent of the daily wage from the implementing entities and 40 percent from the Dole. It may be remembered that LGU-Talibon is implementing this program for the students since the Dole introduced the program.

With its implementation 32 students have already graduated from their respective courses through the continuous implementation of the RA No. 7323 also known as the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).
