Nuncio to preside at Medroso installation

 

BOHOLANOS in the Diocese of Tagbilaran would be witnessing again one of the most solemn rites the local church is putting up Thursday when the Apostolic Nuncio presides over the canonical possession of the diocese by a new bishop. Archbishop Fernando Filoni, the country's Apostolic Nuncio installs Most Reverend Leonardo Y. Medroso, DD to take liturgical control over the Diocese of Tagbilaran.

Mons . Medroso, who replaces Most Reverend Leopoldo Tumulak DD, formally arrives here in Bohol Wednesday, December 13 at the city port. From there, a motorcade rolls off to the Saint Joseph the Worker Cathedral here for the liturgical reception. Himself a doctor on canon law and the concurrent chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Canon Law (ECCL) of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Mons. Medroso gets his taste of the Te Deum done here as the faithful sings praises for his coming at the 10 am rites inside the Cathedral. By 4:15 of the same day, activities shift to the Tagbilaran City airport as the community welcomes the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines , Archbishop Filoni. There, planeside honors would be accorded to the nuncio with local church authorities leading the rites.

Archbishop Filoni, who is also the dean of Vatican Diplomatic Corps also comes for the historic time of jubilation for Tagbilaran kneels in thanksgiving for the new bishop after almost two years of being under an apostolic administrator with Mons. Tumulak. In the evening of December 13, the City and Provincial Governments jointly tender the testimonial dinner for the arriving Roman Catholic Church leader at the Bohol Cultural Center. On December 14, at 9:30 am , the faithful gathers anew at the Cathedral for the Liturgical possession rites.

Bishop Medroso, the former bishop of Palo Leyte takes over to shepherd half of Bohol , a job from Mons . Tumulak, who was appointed to the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines since January 2005. The Apostolic Nuncio is set to preside the solemn event on December 14. The event promises to be complete with the traditional pomp set for the turn-over of apostolic powers to an incoming church leader. By 4:55 , another planeside departure honors happen at the City airport for the departing Vatican liaison and the country's top Roman Catholic Church leader.
