Trash Farming. Be a biological farmer

GOOD morning to all my friends here in Bohol . I hope you all mad had a good week. I did, until I read the stories about the fetuses found in our town of Tagbilaran . What callous mothers these people must be, how do you think out Lord Jesus views these acts, I can assure you, with tears in his eyes. Remember what Jesus said (Math 18-V5-6) who shall receive one such little child in my name. Receiveth me, but whose shall offend one of these little ones which believes in me, it were better for them that a millstone were hanged about their v-neck and that they were drowned in the depth of the sea. We must remember, young people take note! That once the male sperm fertilizes the female egg, you have life and nobody has the right to take that away. If you do, you immediately become a murderer. Just like the mothers of the babies found. Callous mothers. I am a naturalist and humanitarian and I cannot tolerate these kind of people, they are worse than pigs who wallow in their own filth, no respect for themselves or others, they are vile people, only their happiness counts. Lets pause for a moment: We must teach our children clearly, What is right and what is wrong, Live before them an example Godly, righteous, pure and strong. To teach your children well Let God teach you.

Our topic. – Global warming or warning? The harsh realities of climate change can no longer be ignored as natural disasters from every parts of the globe confront us in alarming rates. Top scientists warn that for the world to have a fighting chance of slowing climate change, carbon emissions will have to be reduced by as much as 70 percent, - and the sooner the better. Over the past century, CO2 levels have risen significantly, there is considerable debate about the reasons – whether its a natural cycle or the result of increased CO2, emissions due to human activities – but obviously human activity accounts for mist of the increase. There is a great amount of research regarding the benefits of organic matter or soil carbon in improving soil quality and the sustainability of balanced agriculture productivity.

Agriculture in general can help reduce the level of CO2 in the atmosphere through the adoption of wide range of conservation practices. Such practices play significant role in capturing and storing CO2 in soil and the vegetation. This process is termed “Carbon sequestration is trash farming, where crop residues are not burned but plowed back into the soil. Simply put, trash farming is to become a “biological farmer” for sustainable and restorative agriculture. Biological farming is a hope for the future, when farmers have become slaves to agribusiness, where profit is more important than environmental conservation. It is a system of farming where the farmer thinks differently, that the fun in farming is to figure out how to get the farm sustainable, the biological farmers objective is how to get the soil alive and balance with mineral, produce quality crops in high yields and work with a system of nature which is environmentally sound and leaves the land, plants and animals in a healthy productive state for all the future generations.

Trash farming is a strategy of biological farming that utilizes and recycles crop waste to improve organic matter in the soil, enhance waterholding capacity and provide natural mulches without harmful effects of burning and chemicals. Today it faces the challenges of increasing costs of oil based fertilizers, decreasing production level, soil degradation and the implementation of republic act 9003 or the ecological solid waste management act. Trash farming can convert crop residues into organic matter and nutrient. For example: sugarcane trash residue is about 10 to 20 percent biomass. An integrated use of five ton of cane trash/MA with 175-kg nitrogen per hectare in the tropies saves nearly half of the nitrogen applied to the sugarcane. The positive value of trash lies in its capacity to minimize nitrogen losses from the soil and to increase organic matter level in the soil.

Trash farming can preserve the beneficial life forms in the soil for “Biological Fixation” Biological Nitrogen Fixation (BNF) alone can supply 20 percent of the nitrogen requirement of the crop. Some of the species of Azotobacter, Azospirillium, Acetobacter and Bacillus have been found to save fertilizer nitrogen by 25 percent of the amount supplied to the crop. Trash farming can also need to improve the quality of the soil and protect the environment. Well farmers, I hope you found this informative, for my research I would like to thank Mary Aidine Galvan from growbio farming systems for her help. Take care see you next week.
