UNFPA eyes community-run maternal, newborn clinics

FOR the coming year, the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) 6th Country Programme gears for community mobilization for community-managed maternal and newborn care clinic as one of its top priority activities. The target surfaced during the annual program review and planning which was successfully conducted November 20-21, 2006 at J & N in Ubay town. The program review aims to facilitate a venue to present accomplishments, facilitating and hindering factors of the project implementation for the year 2006. Aside from the priority activity mentioned, Ms. Ma. Theresa Fernandez, UNFPA Area Officer for Bohol also suggested several other priorities for implementation next year.

The UNFPA 6th year of assistance here in the country has 3 major project components namely, reproductive health, gender and population development strategy. Participating the Ubay activity were implementing partners at the national, provincial and municipal levels. Talibon, Carmen and Ubay are the pilot areas of the said project. UNFPA is the world's largest source of population assistance, with programs implemented in over 140 countries. It supports the right of individuals and couples to decide freely on the number and spacing of their children while helping couples get the information and means to do so.
