Betting our last cent that Balili is running

What really is Angelo Balili up to in keeping his cards close to his chest regarding his plan of seeking a Congress seat in Bohol 's third district? Ask this BGlante no question and we will tell you no lies? No way. And just like any Balili watcher, much as we wanted to really know Balili's political plans, the congressional hopeful is as elusive as ever with his answer. Ano ba talaga! But this we can say with utmost certainty: he is running in the third district as congressman and we are betting our last centavo on this.

Why are we staking our credibility with this fearless forecast on Balili's plans? For one, Balili's body language all this time points to only one direction and that he is running despite reservations of some quarters to the contrary.

One sure thing that Balili will make good his plan of running is that he has the full support of all but one of the 19 mayors of the third district. The big question is why the hell is he so agog about supporting financially any of his 18 mayors if they need money if he is not running for public office. Even granting that he is known far and wide to be easy with his money but still we believe that there is always a string attached to everything he does—giving financial assistance-- to any mayor who needs his help.

Speaking of dole outs to his favorite mayors, what about those town executives in the third district who owed Balili thousands if not millions of pesos because of their own financial woes during the last elections? Can Balili afford to be a charity institution all this time even if he is considered to be fully loaded financially? Unless he has become one, then there's no argument that that he will make good his threat of running.

Another thing is that this is the time that winning the third Congress seat looks easy and handy for Balili. He will let this opportunity (2007 elections) pass and he will have a hard time making it the next time around. Can one imagine the prospect of running against an incumbent if he decides to forego his plan this time? The reason why many are running in the third district is because the Congress field has been leveled since no incumbent is staking his hold of the plum post. And Balili definitely is no exception. That's why he is running, period.
