Jagna pugs win at Leyte 's Bakbakan

By: GREGORIO A. TAVERA

JAGNA – IT may be the dawn of another golden year for Jagna pugilists. But hugging the spotlight in their individual weights are Lito Olaer for the 45 kgs weights, Stephen Tana for the 48 kgs. and Alfredo Balaba for the 58 kgs. Its not that they are doing stellar feats like that of Manny Pacquiao, but this town's boxers punched their way through to impress the people in Southern Leyte . And then to their victories.

Jagna, home of Olympic medalist Roberto “Bobby” Jalnaiz has since dreamt of another boxing glory. Jagna sent a team of three youthful hard punchers to Hinungan, Southern Leyte gymnasium where “Bakbakan sa Kamao” was held July 1. Reports said the stamina wrapped sluggers kept the Leyteños on the edge of their seats in thrilling boxing matches that excited the jam-packed crowd at the spacious venue.

The Jagna LGU ring fighters battled for honor while keeping their roles as the town's ambassadors of goodwill in their brilliant display of true sportsmanship. The efforts at putting more muscles into Team Jagna has been a singular dream of Mayor Exuperio Lloren, who is recently credited as instrumental for the glorious achievement of Jagna's newly discovered golden boys in sports.

It may be recalled that Lloren's administration has geared for the development of sports and physical fitness. The formidable outfit of Jagna's bell-to-bell boxers for the Leyte crucial tourney spent months of rigid disciplinary training in physical set up and moral conduct. The Leyte-bound team was headed by coach Marwin Elaba and assistant coach Marcos Lloren, both prize winning pugilist in their heydays.
