This pompous billing of being Bohol 's entertainment capital |
What comes to mind if the hyping continues to this day that Calape remains Bohol 's entertainment capital? Bane or boon? Read on, and judge it for yourself. At the rate the local government unit of Calape is draining its resources just to sustain the pompous billing, then we can say with certainty that indeed Mayor Ernest Herrera is in real trouble. Good, if the LGU is not spending any centavo to the reported losses every time the venue, the only one of its kind hereabouts, was host to benefit concerts, big time derby or PBA road shows. Now, with all these alleged losses in staging these shows, who was getting the shorter end of the bargain? Is it the LGU or Mayor Herrera in his private capacity? As we get into any diligent audit of the previous stagings in Calape, be it the May 2004 big time derby or the last recent show of Gary Valenciano last Calape fiesta, all of this seemed to indicate that they were virtual bombs at the box office tills. We have it from a good authority that the 4-cock invitational derby last year was at the losing end because the organizers led by Mayor Herrera failed to keep its guaranteed prize of a P1million champion purse. No wonder the last Calape fiesta no longer saw a repeat action of the same kind, if indeed it were good business, because the champion cockers were shortchanged of the championship money of P1 million. Our mole in Calape told this BGlante that only P700,000 was shared among the derby champions or P300,000 short of the promised prize. The recent Valenciano concert was alleged to be another flop, financially. We do not have the exact figure how much were the losses but definitely the local organizers led by Mayor Herrera was reported to be swimming in a sea of red ink, as a result. And who can forget the last PBA skirmish in Bohol two years ago where the Red Bull Barako was pitted against the Alaska Aces. According to our information, the LGU or Mayor Herrera, incurred to the basketball organizers the amount of more than P200,000. Do you ever wonder why the last time you have heard of a PBA road game in Bohol was that Red Bull vs Aces match? Wonder no more because if that PBA debt remain unpaid to this day, then you can kiss goodbye your fancy for PBA games in Bohol. What is our alternative of these big time benefit shows courtesy of Bohol 's entertainment capital? Wait until Mayor Dan Lim's “Big Bug” project is finished. But that's another story. |
