CVSCAFT opens Balilihan campus |
By: Dwight Ebojo |
CENTRAL Visayas State College of Agriculture, Forestry and Technology (CVSCAFT) formally opened a campus in Balilihan early this week, bringing collegiate education closer particularly to those residing in the rural areas. The official unveiling of college grounds, an extension of the Tagbilaran campus, highlighted the town's celebration in commemoration of the 108th anniversary of the country's independence with Governor Erico Aumentado and Congressman Edgar M. Chatto as honored guests. Gov. Aumentado cited the project for making quality collegiate education accessible to all. For his part, Cong. Chatto, a Balilihan-native and an advocate of the school's establishment, has noted the addition as another milestone in the annals of Education and Information Technology (IT) not just for Balilihan, but for the neighboring municipalities as well. The new CVSCAFT extension campus has enrollees from Catigbian, Antequera, San Isidro , Sikatuna, Corella, Cortes and other nearby towns. CVSCAFT has existing campuses in Bilar, Calape, Clarin, Candijay and Tagbilaran. An air-conditioned computer room, a library, laboratory room and other facilities are already functional just in time for the opening of classes last June 13. Also present during the affair were CVSCAFT President Dr. Elpidio Magante, CVSCAFT-Tagbilaran Director Fernando Restificar, CVSCAFT Academic Director Editha Chatto, Mayor Domie Chatto, Vice Mayor Victoria Chatto, and other local government officials, who were one in supporting the school's establishment with the approval of the CVSCAFT Board. The Municipality of Balilihan donated the 2.5-hectare lot. Dr. Magante, in his message, promised to make the campus a center for information technology training. |
