Kids went thru “Boys to men” in Tintinan isle

THAT day, island-barangay Tintinan found a reason why it was called such. School-aged boys trooped to the Ubay sponsored medical mission offering free circumcision to become “men”. Operation tuli , the locally sponsored summer ritual was conducted in Tintinan last May 26 and almost a hundred boys took on the rites of passage and bravely opted to be cut to become more like men.

A team from the town composed of Dr. Retchi Del Mar, rural health unit physician and staff, Kag. Allan Abad, sangguniang bayan member and chairman of the Sangguniang Bayan committee on environment and natural resources and coastal resource management coordinator Alpios Delima with his staff left Ubay. The group endured an almost two-hour land trip and another half hour sea travel for the island barangay where they were welcomed by officials and its populace. Then the braving stuff ensued which the medical mission group contributed as a their share of perpetuating a cultural practice and continuing a local tradition with the help of the town's local officials.
