P80M Talibon port Expansion, sails on |
TALIBON – TRADE and economic opportunity is set to go in leaps and bounds after the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) completes a plan to pour in P80M and expand Talibon port. The programmed expansion project allows Talibon port to accommodate bigger ships and receive heavier cargo loads to possibly cut shipping costs when cargoes intended for northern Bohol go through Tagbilaran ports. According to PPA Tagbilaran Port Manager Engr. Raul Oblenda, the expansion program for Talibon Port will start soon. He added that the authorities are now opening up the port works for bidding, after which the office would award the project to the contractor The port expansion project came at the heels of a collaboration among PPA through Engr. Oblenda, Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado and Second District Congressman Roberto Cajes. Engr Oblenda told the Post that the money for the project comes from the government agency's corporate fund. When completed, shippers may now opt for Talibon when coming to sell their goods. Oblenda added that the winning bidder would start implementing the project, saying further that it needs to field in heavy equipment before real work begins. As the work begins, PPA management may close the port, especially if contractor as started supplies' delivery. |
