Otop holds prodev for local traders

INABANGA – The One Town , One Product (Otop) Center here recently conducted a product development clinic for local traders of raffia loomweaving products. The move aims to prepare the traders for their participation in the 2006 Bohol Sandugo Regional Trade Fair on July 20-23 at the Island City Mall in Tagbilaran City .

Designer Rey Soliven of the Product Development and Design Center of the Philippines (PDDCP) critiqued, edited and suggested conversions and insertions in the current designs. He suggested converting raffia products into fashionable and usable bags, mobile curtains, fans, fans with mirrors, wall mirror accent and décor, and bags with mirrors.

Soliven admitted he was impressed with the existing designs and styles mainly due to the trendy colors. He said he is excited to see the local producers craft his suggested designs. After all, they can make world-class and high end products, he said. Mayor Josephine Socorro Jumamoy initiated the product development activity with the end in view of enhancing the global competitiveness of the town's products. In the process, her administration will be upgrading the economic situation at the grassroots, she said.
