“Tribu Batuganan” wins Estokada 06

NEWCOMER Alicia's “Tribu Batuganan” danced a notch higher while portraying how to slay the devil in Saint Michael Archangel's mythical fight depicted in the “Sinuog Estokada 2006.” Tribu Batuganan bested 7 other dancing contingents in the street dancing ritual, which Jagna has successfully institutionalized. The contest also promises to be one of the best awarding group ritual dancing competition in Bohol. Alicia's Tribu danced their way home with P75T cash bag money and the Best in costume award which brings another P3T and a giant trophy during the street dancing and ritual competition on the occasion of the 375th anniversary of the municipality of Jagna and the feast of St. Michael the Archangel last September 29 at Tejero Grandstand.

The contingent from the Jagna Central Elementary School came out 2nd and was awarded best in production design which made them richer by Php 60,000.00 plus the additional cash of Php 3,000.00 for the said minor award while the defending champion, the Tribu Ubayanon from the municipality of Ubay, Bohol made it to the 3rd place hence they took home the cash prize of Php 50,000.00 plus the minor award as having the best San Miguel character in portrayal. Homegrown kids at the Jagna Central Elementary School grabbed the P60T second cash prize and the P3T best in Production Design along with another trophy.

Last year's winner, Tribu Ubayanon of Ubay was unseated and settled for a neat third, capping the P50T cash prize and the Best San Miguel lead dancer. Meanwhile, the Best in street dancing went to the Cienaga group. Cienaga is a unity contingent of the three high schools (CMM, BIT and Faraon High) in Jagna. Receiving the awards for Alicia's Tribu Batuganan were Mayor Bienvenido Molina and Vice-Mayor Exequiel Madriñan. Other participating contingents who received consolation prizes of P15T each were Lumad Danaonon of Danao; Kabunghan of Bunga Mar Elementary School, Jagna; Tribo Canjulaonon of Canjulao Elementary School , Jagna and the municipality of Lila. Adding excitement and color to the festival were the presence of well known personalities both on television and movie including the multi-awarded actress Cherry Pie Picache, former Pinoy Big brother housemate Angela Calina and former beauty queen and Miss Earth organizer Peachy Veneracion who chaired the board of judges. Completing the list of the board of jurors were Fiel Angeli Arao-Arao-Gabin, Christopher Ramasola, Nila Itac, Marianito Jose Luspo and the founder of Sinuog "Estokada" Fr. Floro Hinacay.

On the other hand, Poncia Madriñan-Jamero, the candidate of the St. Michael Association of America, Northern California and Jagna Association of Southern California, USA was crowned JAGNA GLOBALIK QUEEN 2006 by no less than Mayor Exuperio Lloren and First Lady Nimfa Abayan-Lloren during the regal coronation rites cum fellowship night of all Jagnaanon Balikbayan on the vesper evening. Jamero was proclaimed Jagna Globalik Queen during the last canvassing which was held on September 21, 2006 besting 5 other candidates representing the different Pundok Jagnaanon all over the archipelago and from abroad. Inday as she is fondly called is a Jagnaanon by blood and traces her family roots in barangay Canjulao of this town. She is now residing as an American citizen in Vallejo , California and currently works as an employee at the California highway patrol in the U.S. that gave her the Employee of the Year Award in 2005.

The other five princesses who composed the royal throne were Flor Cagampang-Rañola who was declared 1st runner-up and represented the Pundok Jagnaanon - Metro Manila. Dr. Belinda Tojong-Abrenilla, M.D. which represented Pundok-Jagnaanon representing Pundok-Jagnaanon Sugbu was 2nd runner-up and was adjudged Best in Modified Philippine Terno, Best in Contemporary Evening Gown and Best in Flashy Cocktail Wear. Maribel Rañin - Abrea was declared 3rd runner-up and was also adjudged Madam Photogenic represented Pundok-Jagnaanon Davao. Fourth runner-up was Maritess Echavez-Ballentos of Pundok-Jagnaanon General Santos (Socsargen) while the Fifth runner-up, Dolores Rana-Apag represented Pundok-Jagnaanon Cagayan de Oro City.
