SP amends children's entry ban in bars and nightclubs

IN an expected move, the Sangguniang Panlungsod has amended an ordinance banning children's entry to amusement places via an ordinance that legislators see would stop kids from entering nigh clubs, disco, resto videoke bars and similar establishments of amusement and entertainment.

Earlier, the city administrative code only bans minors from viewing, playing, watching or loitering within the vicinity of any billiard or pool halls from 7 a.m to 3 p.m. during school days. But the added regulation, legislators press the logic that children are not allowed entry in nightclubs and bars at any time on any day. That should be held true, even when adults accompany them.

The ordinance seeks to protect children from the proliferation of KTV bars and nightclubs in the city. Atty. Myrna Trabajo-Pagsuberon, people's council representative for women youth and children sector authored the proposal, under the sponsorship of Hon. Lucio Balbin, Chair of the SP Committee on Social Welfare, men, women and family relations.
