Ornamental fish trade workshop held |
INABANGA – Marine ornamental fish, anyone? Mayor Josephine Socorro Jumamoy and the Marine Aquarium Market Transformation Initiative (MAMTI) Project recently conducted a Collection Area Management Planning (CAMP) Workshop for the local Marine Ornamental Fish Trade. The workshop aimed to validate the Inabanga area profile for finalization and dissemination, to present the Marine Aquarium Council (MAC) Ecosystem Fisheries Management (EFM) standards and to assess the EFM certifiability of Inabanga. It also intended to come up with marine ornamental fishery management options for incorporation into the Coastal Resource Management (CRM) Plan and to define the roles of the CRM-Technical Working Group (TWG) and the CAMP Council (CAMPC) in CRM/CAMP implementation and to identify capability-building and other needs of the group. Jumamoy is confident that the skills and knowledge learned during the activity will contribute in sustaining this town's ornamental fish trade. Staff and personnel of the Marine Aquarium Council (MAC), the Reef Check Foundation (RCF), Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member and CRM Action Officer Francisco Alesna Jr., Municipal Agriculture Officer (MAO) Leocadio Torregosa, Municipal Fishery Technician (MFT) Elvissa Anunciado and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENRO) facilitated the activity. |
