BDRC jail guard commits suicide

A jail guard of the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center (BDRC) was reported to be a suicide victim late yesterday afternoon, the cause of which was traced to nervous breakdown. The suicide was identified as Restituto Evangelista, 36, a native of Sto. Nino, Talibon town. He was said to be a distant relative of Police Supt. Arturo Evangelista., Bohol police director.

Fellow jail guards interviewed last night said that Evangelista used his 38 service firearm in ending his life. The suicide put his gun in his mouth and the lone bullet exited at the back of his head causing his death. He was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA) at the Governor Celestino Memorial Hospital at about 4:50 yesterday afternoon.

The nervous breakdown angle was advanced by fellow jail guards after the suicide was heard to be complaining about his mental state. The jail who was employed at the BDRC for the past three years allegedly developed the nervous ailment after he was reportedly haunted by past operations where he was a member of a composite team. The team was credited for having collared and killed one of the Pojas brothers who bolted the BDRC two years ago. The dead body was brought to the Cooperative Funeral Homes for autopsy.
