Now showing in Baclayon: It's Uy vs. Uy for mayor

Barring any backdoor maneuver, the spectacle of an Uy vs Uy in Baclayon is finally taking shape. Although it was not the Uy the Baclayon electorate is clamoring for, just the same it is still an Uy. Also packing a lot of financial muscle, this Uy will surely give the dominant Uy a run for its money. It was only last Friday evening that lawyer Alvin Uy finally acceded to take on the wife of Mayor Benny Uy, Elena, and heads the opposition juggernaut in Baclayon. And who's assuming the role of Alvin 's running mate? She's no other than Kagawad Marilyn Rubillar Uy, the other Uys relative “they love to hate”. Now that she is in the warm embrace of the opposition arms, the mayoralty contest in Baclayon will go down in history as the most exciting match even seen in the history of the town.

If the Uy and Uy tandem will remain intact, chances are its formidability and bankability are a force to reckon with what with Board Member Felix Uy, brother of the incumbent mayor, throwing his lot to the new combination. It was presumed that after months of agonizing the prospect of the cohesive Uy family whose shining armor is now peppered with chinks, Board Member Uy has finally given his blessing to the Uy and Uy duo.

Although just an in—law, Elena Uy, is said to have a campaign kitty of P2 million for starters. For a small town like Baclayon whose voting population is almost 10,000, a P2 million war chest is already considered a formidable fortune. But the other Uy is no pushover in money matters. Scion of the wealthy Uy family whose fortune is built around the transportation business (St. Jude Trans) and prime real estate properties, money for money , pound for pound, this Uy moneywise is not an exaggeration.
