Inabanga leaders go on expo mission

INABANGA – Officials, department heads and employees of the Local Government Unit (LGU) here led by Mayor Josephine Socorro Jumamoy successfully conducted a three-day exposure mission on integrated coconut industry in Naval, Biliran Province. The mission forms part of the LGU's effort to provide livelihood opportunities to the people through comprehensive livelihood development initiatives giving emphasis to the development of local industries that would provide immediate and direct impact. The activity was an appreciation mission on integrated coconut processing ventures in the island of Leyte . The 26-strong team included representatives of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Farmers Development Center (FARDEC) and local community organizers (COs).

The mission aimed to appreciate the different products to be developed from the coconut palm; to understand and appreciate the different production technologies developed by the Leyte State University (LSU); to observe actual production from raw material preparation to finishing and packaging; and to know and appreciate marketing strategies undertaken by the different producers. The group visited the Biliran Integrated Coconut Industries, Inc. in Cube, Naval, Biliran, Affire Multi-purpose Cooperative, LSU and Mugna Bisaya all of which process coconut.

They observed technologies for producing virgin coconut oil (VCO) and by-products, coconut vinegar, copra processing, coco fiber and by-products, coco methyl esther (CME), coco bio-diesel and coconut charcoal. Jumamoy expressed gratitude to all the hosts they visited and to all the partner agencies for the full cooperation that made the activity successful. The activity was part of the LGU's commitment to the project with the Provincial Government, Philippines-Australia Community Assistance Program (PACAP) and Kennedy Round 2, aside from the three-hectare property for the project site, she said.

Pres/ CPG DCWs visit Inabanga ECD

INABANGA – The local success in early childhood care and development (ECCD) initiatives is fast becoming known far and wide so that it is getting to be the favorite site for lakbay aral or educational tours for other local government units (LGUs) embarking into the same activities. The busload of day care workers (DCWs) from President Carlos P. Garcia town became the latest visitors Thursday afternoon to see the town's ECCD resource center and day care centers to learn about the ECCD initiatives and to see how Mayor Josephine Socorro Jumamoy implemented the program. Lelia Bisaya, Pres. CPG municipal social welfare and development officer (MSWDO) led the group of 25 DCWs.

Local MSWDO Artemia Samaco and her staff Lily Garcera brought the visitors to the ECCD Center and to the Nabuad, Lapacan Sur, Cagayan, Luyo, Ilaud, Poblacion, Tambooc, Lutao, Dagohoy and Banahao DCCs. Samaco said Jumamoy's vision, leadership and administration see to it that the ECCD activities implemented here are those that appropriately support children and provide an environment conducive to study. These activities are implemented by the DCWs, rural health midwives, barangay nutrition workers and ECCD workers work with the parents to strengthen their parenting skills.

The ECCD education program addresses the child's needs in a holistic way, as well as strive to bolster the community in its economic, physical and moral support of families, mothers and young children. The project refers to child and family-focused services designed to build on and improve existing health, nutrition and early education services for disadvantaged children 0-6 years old. Meanwhile, Jumamoy said her administration always stresses that studies and surveys show that the benefits gained from investing in ECD education programs far outweigh investment costs by increasing the economic productivity of the children who will complete school and of women who receive child care support services.

The Jumamoy administration envisions benefits from increased school participation and performance linked to increased earning possibilities. Jumamoy said interventions in health, nutrition and early education offer the most benefits and the highest rates of return by improving children's overall health and well being, by improving school performance and reducing the chances of school failure that pre-dispose children to dropping out of school.

ECD Inabanga under the Jumamoy administration truly deserves the awards and recognitions, Bisaya said. The results of the well-balanced and well-implemented programs are very visible, she added. There is now evidence that integrated Early ECD programs have sustained long-term benefits to the family, especially women and older siblings who are caregivers to Inabanga's economy and society.

Jumamoy guests at the CBB annual assembly

MAYOR Josephine Socorro Jumamoy was the keynote speaker at the 27th Annual General Assembly and election of new set of directors of the Cooperative Bank of Bohol (CBB) yesterday at the Bohol Tropics Resort in Tagbilaran City. Jumamoy talked on leadership and empowerment. She urged the members and stockholders of the Samahang Nayons and cooperatives under the banner of CBB to do their part and take responsibility regardless of who wins in order to continue to the rebirth, development, and progress of this organization.

“You should not ask what your leaders can do for you but what you can do in order to support them for the sustainability of your organization,” Jumamoy said. She said members should not pin all the hopes for the future of the organization on the next president or director and his government or leadership and should not desperately expect miracles to happen. “For as long as that is our mentality, then there is no way this organization can move forward, much less soar high, “ she said. Jumamoy congratulated the members and stockholders of Cooperative Bank of the Philippines having the fact that it contributed much to the livelihood as well as sustainability of the ordinary citizens. She then urged the over 500 members and stockholders of the CBB to continue what they have started, hold on to their mission and vision as well as with their strong and harmonious relationship within the organization. She vowed support for CBB, being an advocate of the programs directly or indirectly helping uplift the livelihood and quality of life in the grassroots.
