oWhile other so-called candidates are crying “me against the world”, the case of Rene Relampagos is that he is enjoying the best of both worlds. And at the moment, that's his ace up his sleeve. Don't get this Bglante wrong as you go along what looks like a brief of the former Bohol governor. It is just that we learned lately that he is enjoying the best of both worlds after he was the toast of both the Lakas and opposition parties. And we feel obligated to share this information to all those who care to read our treatise of the former provincial executive. Why Lakas when he is a staunch opposition stalwart? Well, some people are smarter than others and Rene Relampagos happens to be one of them. The :Lakas factor that works in Rene's favor as he made known his intention to run as congressman in the third district is his close association to the “Empress of the East' Board Member Conching Lim.

It is never an understatement that Lim, the matriach of the Lim dynasty in Valencia wields a considerable clout to the province's Lakas tower of power—Gov. Erico Aumentado. Who can argue that whatever Conching wants from Gov. Aumentado, she can get with effortless ease. And their close association dated from way, way back. We are not saying here that the Valencia matriach had already pressured the Ricdoy about the Reneboy factor. But some jaded pundits already considered the scenario that sooner or later Conching will have to exercise her influence over the governor in order to accommodate his muy niño bonito hijado. So what else is new if Rene will turn Lakas? In this age of political butterflies, that is no big deal. Besides, Rene compared to all other contenders in the district is no pushover as a candidate. And he is a prized catch of Lakas because his influence is not only confined within the four walls of the third district but is stretches all the way to the entire province as well.

Why do you think are some people are prodding him to run for governor if not of his province wide popularity. One thing is sure. Those who want Rene to run for governor is afraid of his vote-getting power in the third district. But Rene is not that stupid to run the risk of running against Aumentado after he was clobbered two times in a row. It would be better for him to try his luck as third district congressman whose chances of winning is within grasp. Winning the gubernatorial contest is a tall order for Rene and the last two elections were enough for him not to try against a tested political wonder boy in Gov. Aumentado. As an opposition timber, Rene is also the apple of the eyes of the anti-Gloria forces. In fact there were some insinuations that he was being courted to head the united opposition in Bohol . As of now, Rene is keeping his cards close to his chest. After all, he is now ripe for the picking of both administration and opposition suitors. In the meantime, Reneboy is consoled with the thought that all his political options are stacked in his favor. Whether he will gun for a Lakas slot or remain in the opposition is Rene's option which can be the envy of many.
