Loay Blood Compact Execom mulls commemoration events

 

The “1565 Treaty- The Loay Blood Compact” Executive Committee had recently formulated the events highlight of the forthcoming March 25,2007 celebration- the 442 years anniversary of the “first treaty of friendship between people of different nations and races “held at the shores of Hinawanan beach (now Villalimpia) Loay, Bohol. According to Mayor LeonidesTionco, the objectives of the Loay Blood Compact is” to renew mutual understanding among people of nationalities, races, culture and beliefs” and celebrate international friendship and peace. According to John Galia Enerio, chair of the event organizing group tasked to conceptualize and market the Loay Blood Compact, that ‘history will be re- lived, and history will promote the essence of the1565 Blood Compact that from humble and simple beginning in Loay, the essence of peace and friendship will be perpetuated by the participants of the commemoration in their own communities and countries.

That it was forged by two men of different races may become the rallying point for the promotion of the brotherhood of man-“one blood, one people, one world”, Enerio further elaborated. In line with the March 16 to 25 series of activities lined up for the celebration which shall be culminated on March 25 with the re-enactment and Signing of the Creed which has gotten the acceptance and confirmation of multinational and international participants(foreign tourist)and support from the private sector. The representatives of the Loay Blood Compact as Commemoration to work with the Events Management Group as recommended by the Municipality of Loay are: Rev.Fr. Marcilino Biliran for the church and religious sector; Mrs. Evelyn Witte, pioneer entrepreneur in the Alona Panglao area, owner of the Alona Kew Beach Resort and Suba Restaurant (Hinawanan, Loay) for the Business sector; Mrs. Elina Baquial, of DECS for the education sector; the culture and arts sector by Mrs.Jacinta Yeu; tourism sector will be ably represented by Kag. Antonio Suponga. Putting up the celebration in its right historical perspective will be coordinated by the organizing group thru Mr. Aniceto Lagura, who will closely coordinate with the academe most especially Holy Name University , University of Bohol , the University of Sto . Tomas and Silliman University, the national library, the National Historical Institute, NCCA among other organizations that have in its archive the “factual historical record” of the 1565 Friendship Treaty.

The woman sector of Loay will be represented by no less than Kag.Eleuteria Tare, the senior citizen by Mrs. Cecilia Bongcaras, the youth and civic organization by Mrs. Marie Alcala and Mrs. Josefina Sarabia respectively. The details of the events are being worked out by execom considering that the 1565 Treaty – Loay Blood Compact is barely 2 months away thus the Events Organizing Group is also coordinating with Mr. Jenar Valloso, Loay SB secretary to update the Municipal Council of Loay of the celebration and it will be ready to distribute and give to interested parties and entry forms for the three searches: Name the Event, Logo Design and Song Writing contest to which prizes await the best entries.
