City legislature supports province's buy back plan |
THE Tagbilaran City Council approved en masse during on Wednesday's session a resolution supporting the provincial government's plan to reacquire Bohol Light Company, Inc. (BLCI) and Bohol Water Utilities, Inc.(BWUI) from Salcon Consortium. The resolution was passed to support Provincial Board Resolution 2006-615, which authorized the Governor, Gov.. Erico Aaumentado, to lead the team of negotiators to “ commence formal negotiation” with Salcon Consortium, and reach terms and agreement that best benefit the province's of consumers. The 9th SP is of the opinion that the “positive outcomes” of the negotiations will “rebound to the welfare and the benefit of the Tagbilaran consumers. According to the resolution, the constituents of Tagbilaran City compose the twin utilities' majority consumers. The resolution pointed out that Salcon's petition for exorbitant water rate increases without going through proper consultation with the people of Tagbilaran City undermines the company's water and light services. Considering the great number of Tagbilaranon consumers subscribing to BLCI and BWUI's services, the city government is “willing to invest 49%of the deal made out of formal negotiation “ to assure city consumers” good service with equitable price range”, the resolution further declares. |
