In lieu of the November 30, which should be a holiday, the President Arroyo has however authorized December 1, which falls on a Friday as non-working holiday to lengthen the holidays and add a day to the week-end.Even then, the activities set for the commemoration of Bonifacio Day on November 30 will still be observed, according to Proclamation 1169 which Malacanang released Monday. With it, President Arroyo also announced that December 26, which falls on a Tuesday becomes a special non-working day.

The Proclamation, which cited the Filipino tradition of visiting relatives and spending time with ones family on Christmas Day, gives the opportunity for travel to those returning to their workplaces after the Christmas visits. Christmas this year falls on a Monday.Furthermore, working on the holiday economics as local tourism booster, many have commented that the proclamation also is put in to give a day more to the weekend and have it starting Friday, a day after Bonifacio Day.
