Supercat back in action!

Fast craft passengers in the Tagbilaran-Cebu-Tagbilaran route must have known by now what they have been missing all along: the return of Supercat. Dubbed the Sea Flight of the 90”s, Supercat is back in action and it will be for good. For almost a decade, the twin-hulled fast craft became synonymous with prompt, fast and safe service earning the praise and accolade of the Boholanos not just in name but as a brand. It decided to halt temporary operations in 2005 due to high maintenance cost. Supercat is part of the passenger travel and leisure brand (with SuperFerry) of the Aboitiz Transport System (ATS) –- the integrated transport and logistics service arm of Aboitiz & Company (ACO) and owned by publicly listed arm, Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV). The Aboitiz group is one of the largest and most diversified corporations in the country with business interests spanning various industries in the Philippines such as power, banking, food production, property development, construction, shipbuilding, and leisure/resort. The Aboitiz name has been synonymous with transport since it embarked on its first shipping venture more than 100 years ago. Today, it is the largest inter-island movers of passengers and cargo in the Philippines .

SuperCat has been pivotal and strategic to the fast ferry industry in the country. The Aboitiz-owned Supercat has created synergy that has enlarged the fast ferry industry to benefit economies scale, review capacities on existing routes, and complement travel-related products. Visayas is the hub of the country's fast ferries operation. Responding to the 21st century thrust of ‘going global', the entry of the fast ferry industry in Visayas almost a decade ago has reshaped the rules and practice of sea travel and the maps of the industry as well. With globalization, fast craft vessels have made it possible for enterprises and governments to crisscross throughout the region to conclude business deals, open new markets and build long-term partnerships. This development propelled commerce and trade and accelerated tourism and tourism-related activities to new and wider dimensions.

P100 PROMO RATE

As part of ongoing promotions for its thrice-daily service to Cebu-Tagbilaran, SuperCat announces that Cebu or Tagbilaran-bound passengers can avail of a return trip ticket for only P100, if they purchase a one way regular fare ticket of P400, inclusive of 12% VAT. A similar promo is available for the Cebu-Ormoc route, which now offers a return trip fare of P210. According to SuperCat Fast Ferry Corporation Operations Manager, James Lavides, “Supercat 22 engines are fuel efficient and require low maintenance. It runs on propellers and has a capacity of 200 passengers.

They continue to be larger and more comfortable than the standard monohull vessels in the market.” SuperCat temporarily discontinued the Cebu-Tagbilaran service in May 2005, as it searched for more fuel efficient and low cost maintenance vessels. It resumed servicing the route last November 11, 2006.”While we place the highest importance on making every voyage safe, enjoyable and comfortable, we also want to continue making SuperCat an affordable option for the riding public,” said Lavides.

Supercat operates four vessels in three ports of call: Supercats 20 and 23 operate in Batangas, Supercat 21 in Ormoc and Supercat 22 in Tagbilaran. For more information, please call SuperCat hotline (032) 233-7000 or email scat-customercare@SuperCat.com.ph.
