Sandugo 2006: street dancing for ‘most participated record'

“TRANSCENDING Boundaries” indeed marks this year's 40 groups as approximated by this year's streetdancing committee to field in a spectacle in this year's Sandugo Street Dancing Festival. This will be Bohol Sandugo's record in its 18-years of organizing the celebration: the most number of participants to dance in the main thoroughfares in Tagbilaran City.

The main bulk of participants however belong to non-competing groups which will come from public and private schools, organizations, business establishments, balikbayans and clans. This is an attempt to strip the contingents of the prohibitive costs of coming out with competing groups. This has also earned the nods of heads of institutions during a meeting early March this year. The street dancing, to be staged along city major streets provide public and private institutions a venue for promotions.

The street dancing this year centers on the varying depictions of the Blood Compact, while showcasing Bohol 's cultural ingenuity and creativity through dance-theater. Communications has already been made to prospective contestants and visits to the local governments to seek their support have already started, organizers said.

A highlight in the street dancing is the festival of champions as guest performers. This idea, which was started last year was fielded in by Masskara ( Bacolod City ), Dinagyang ( Iloilo City ), Atiatihan (Kalibo, Aklan), Mantawi ( Mandaue City ) and Yagyag (Sibulan, Oriental Negros). Arrangement are being made to also invite the grand winner of Lanzones festival (Camiguin) and Dalit festival ( Tangub City ).

To make the ambitious endeavor of creating a national record possible, the Bohol Sandugo Foundation Inc. chaired by Mayor Dan Neri Lim and co-chaired by Governor Erico Aumentado has tapped all resources it could muster to aid the streetdancing committee headed by Carmen Gatal.

Firms, LGU's NGO's schools, socio-civic organizations, clans and various establishments are enjoined to participate the street dancing. Inquires may be addressed to Bohol Sandugo, Inc. (BSFI) Secretariat at 3/F New City Hall Building. (BSFI Secretariat/David S. Maulas)
