Inabanga produces top BNS in 2005

INABANGA – This town produced Bohol 's 2005 most outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) – the third in a row for this health-conscious municipality. Mayor Josephine Socorro Jumamoy, the municipal and the 50 barangay local government units (LGU) expressed pride over the selection of Florencia “Flor” Anuta, 45, of Barangay Lutao by the Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC). Anuta started being a BNS in September 2002.

Jumamoy lauded Anuta for doing her ordinary tasks and responsibilities as a barangay nutrition worker (BNW) in an extraordinary and committed way. Jumamoy said as such, she is an example to other health workers to emulate in terms of efficient and effective delivery of public service. Anuta has been regularly conducting weight monitoring through Operation Timbang (OPT) for 0-71-month-old children; health teaching through mothers' classes and the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon sessions; family and household minimum basic needs profiling through surveys, and diet counseling. She assists the midwife in the barangay health station, conducts supplemental feeding and distribute nutritious food rations to the children monthly.

She also assists in extending medical services such as taking and monitoring of blood pressure, first aid and wound dressing, conduct of pre-natal clinic; and referring patients to the municipal health officer for further medical examination and treatment. She also assists the sanitary inspector in the conduct of iodized salt testing and the monitoring and promotion of its use. “Wala ko maningkamot aron mahatagan ug pasidungog. Ako lang gibuhat ang akong mga buluhaton isip usa ka BNW (I do not strive for recognition. I just do my part as a BNS),” said Anuta an interview. She seriously does her responsibilities for the future of the young children who are the future of the nation, she said.

She expressed gratitude to the officials of Lutao for being always there, supportive of her needs as she goes about her duties. She is also motivated by the cooperation and harmonious relationship of the local folks that resulted into achieving such recognition. These show that productive changes happen in the implementation of nutrition programs in line with the plans and thrusts of Jumamoy and her administration, she added. She also thanked the Jumamoy administration for giving attention and importance to health and nutrition programs. Anuta also enjoys the full support of the Barangay Nutrition Council under Brgy Captain Estillore and the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) that Jumamoy heads.
