PDP Laban wont chacha, backs behavioral change |
PARTIDO Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) in Tagbilaran City and Bohol chapters have opposed the moves for charter change (chacha) but favors behavioral change of Filipinos. In a joint meeting of the executive committees of Tagbilaran City and Bohol Councils last Saturday, the local party units approved the motion of Execom member Silvano Garsuta of Trinidad to oppose charter change, but favor the biblical behavioral change. The Execom members approved the Garsuta motion unanimously since the party adheres to the pro-God principles. The PDP Laban believed that the charter change would benefit only the existing officials. It pointed out that the charter change would result only to “the same dog with a different collar”, noting that the incumbent President and Vice President would remain and members of Congress would compose the interim parliament. “What we need now is change of the people running the government, not the system of government”, the local party units said. The PDP Laban warned that the charter change would fuse the power of the president and congress, since the latter would compose the interim parliament. The PDP Laban further warned that if charter change will succeed, there would be no elections in 2007. This is so because the charter change would be continued by the interim parliament composed of the members of the House of Representatives which has proposed that all elected officers from the president down to the barangay officials would serve in office until 2010. |
