Pista na pod! |
TIn keeping with the atmosphere of the fiesta season, we should have wanted to take a leave of absence in this weekly column. But much as we intend to skip column writing this week, Romy Teruel's sudden ailment (He is hospitalized at the Cebu Doctor's Hospital) pushed us to think otherwise. So the leave, we skip. Anyway, how can we probably allow our paper to be saddled with “leaves”. So here we go again! This time around, we cannot escape the urge of zeroing in our topic to Bohol 's favorite past time—fiesta. As early as last week, Bohol was ushered in with the fiesta season starting with the feast of Our Lady of the Village, patroness of the municipality of Corella . Then the mother of all Bohol fiestas is coming to town. The Tagbilaran City fiesta, concededly the biggest religious homage in Bohol is the opening salvo of all fiestas in the towns. As to why on May 1, all roads lead to Tagbilaran City for the annual fiesta celebration of St. Joseph, the Worker, explains the phenomenon that fiesta time is all over Bohol. It may be noted that fiesta celebrations are decreed as a religious gathering. But in most cases, the celebration is more honored in the table preparations. That's why fiesta goers are more interested in the culinary adventure rather than in venerating the patron saint honored during the occasion. But what happens is that people have been used to the practice and it has been ingrained in the system for generations already. Whatever, fiesta is part of any Boholano culture. Through the passage of time, it will remain part of our daily existence. So what' s all the fuss? It's fiesta time, so we enjoy every minute of the celebration. |
