P9M modern livestock auction market set to rise in Catigbian

CARABAO auction, the town market's “milking cow” gets a new home in the P9M modern livestock auction market set to rise a few meters from Catigbian Public Market. During the recent groundbreaking ceremony of the new structure Friday March 17, which was also attended by Congressman Edgar Chatto, locals see the development as another highlight in the innovative governance led by Mayor Roberto Salinas and Vice Mayor Fortunato Concon. The project entails 50% grant, 40% loan and 10% community based resource management project counterpart, says a text message from the town's information officer, Ardissa Estavilla.

Formerly a very brisk business in a tight structure inside the market premises, the carabao auction, the town's punctuating income generator faces the risk of accidents when livestock compete for the attention of a female on display for sale. Salinas said he believes the modern livestock market contributes to the town's efforts to shake off poverty by affording a business climate venue where investors would come and spur development. Livestock traders, some of them from Mindanao and Negros believe that the new infrastructure would effectively make Catigbian a prominent mark in the livestock market industry map. This as recently, Catigbian's four barangays received a crucial project support to beat poverty out of the town.

Mayor Roberto L. Salinas told the media his appreciation to the Provincial Government of Bohol through Governor Erico Aumentado for dropping the lifeline for his barangay's multi-purpose cooperatives. Bohol , through the Bohol Poverty Reduction Management Office (BPRMO) granted a total of P407T intended for livelihood projects for the multipurpose cooperatives of barangays Libron, Alegria, Candumayao and Hagbuaya.

The fund, Mayor Salinas said, is intended for the cooperative's programs on banana, coconut, fruit bearing trees and vegetable farming activities as earlier proposed by the proponent cooperative organizations. (rachiu/PIA)
