Talibon residents get Missouri medMission |
FINDING its own way in giving its people the services they deserve and the services they must get, indigent constituents had their day as they trooped to the Carlos P. Garcia Multi-Purpose Center and Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital , January 29 to February 2 to get their doses for free. The services were via a group of concerned Filipino medical practitioners residing in Missouri USA. Sponsored by the town of Talibon , the team came over bearing the name “Filipino American Charities EST of St. Louis, Missouri “headed by Dr. Alberto Veloria. At the mission site, various health services were extended to the poor. The mission had medical check up, surgical and dental operations and gave free medicines. The endeavor materialized when Mayor Item and Jennifreda Betonio Hazelbeaker, A Talibongnon, agreed to have a medical mission in the town. Upon the team's arrival in the town, the visitors joined the regular flag raising ceremony. A short program ensued, this time conducted at the Carlos P. Garcia Memorial Session Hall. Mayor Item, Vice Mayor Restituto Auxtero, Sangguniang Bayan members and the Municipal local officials and employees entertained the visitors during the welcome party. Peter Polestico Human Resource Management Officer (HRMO III) hosted the program. In his welcome remarks, Mayor Item uttered his thanks for the service he gets for his people. After introducing his team, Dr. Velocia said they made it to Talibon as some Filipino practitioners in the USA have not completely forgetten where they are. He informed the elected officials that in USA , politicians who put healthcare not on top of their priorities easily do not get elected. In the mission, Talibon team had a compliment force from selected medical practitioners from Cebu , Manila particularly from the Far Eastern University. The five-day affair ended with a commemorative dinner with distribution of plaque of appreciation to team members. |
