Jagna nat'l finalist for local legislative award |
THE Central Visayas Regional Award Committee picks Jagna Sangguniang Bayan as national finalist to the search for national awardees for local legislative bodies. The news was relayed to the LGU over long distance call from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Rustica Mascariñas through Jagna DILG Field Officer Vissia Bunado. Jagna's 5th SB, composed of an all-professional team emerged as Region VII's best based on the award criteria days after it was also proclaimed by the Provincial Award Committee as finalist-sanggunian among Bohol's 4th-6th class municipalities in December of 2006. Spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the said national award for local legislators, considered as the first of its kind. It is aimed at recognizing the exemplary performance of both the SP-for highly urbanized, independent and component cities. Also, the Sangguniang Bayan - 1st to 3rd and 4th to 6th class municipalities respectively are set to be honored while excelling in legislating measures that help build the foundation of meaningful local administration and development and that ultimately contributes to the attainment of desirable socio-economic and environmental management outcomes. Jagna's local lawmakers have been legislating measures complementing with the executive agenda of Mayor Exuperio Lloren specifically on the ten year Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and the Millennium Development Goals. Some key legislations are on the priority development thrusts such as on the Ecological Solid Waste Management Program, Senior Citizens, Gender and Development (GAD) through the creation of the Children's Code, One Town, One Product (OTOP) Movement, the Anti-Red Tape campaign through the implementation of the yearly one-stop shop and the Coastal Resource Management. Comprising the National Award Committee to select winners and implement appropriated awarding ceremonies are DILG Secretary Puno, the National Chairman and President of the Philippine Councilors League, Secretaries of the Departments of Agriculture (DA), Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Budget and Management (DBM) and the Presidents of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and Center for Legislative Development (CLD). |
