CCAD presents 3 Christmas events

PASKO sa Bohol gains its local ambiance as the Provincial Government of Bohol with Gov. Erico Aumentado through the Center for Culture and Arts Development (CCAD) present three different season enhancing events to mark another year in cultural re-awakening here. CCAD offers this Christmas season the Children's Christmas Festival, the Rondalla Daygon and “Pastores A Belen” Extravaganza and the Pista sa mga Parol as Capitol sponsored events. Around 400 elementary pupils and youth choirs of the City Schools Division compete in the Children's Christmas Festival set December 21, 2006 at Bohol Cultural Center . Co-sponsored by the City Government of Tagbilaran with the Department of Education– City Division and the Bohol Arts, Cultural and Heritage Council (BACHC), the festival promises to be one memorable day for the kids as admission is free.

The Rondalla Daygon and “Pastores A Belen” Extravaganza on the other hand is a 1 ½ hour nightly Christmas concert running from December 18-22, 2006 in front of the Capitol building. Selected rondalla groups in the province will be presenting their pastores and daygon. The famed Loboc Rondalla will take the center stage on the 18th while Loay and Carmen Rondalla will be the performers on the 19th. The rondalla of the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School and Loon will perform on the 19th while the Dimiao Children's Rondalla and Catigbian Rondalla will showcase their pastores and daygon presentations on the 21st and 22nd, respectively.

On the other hand, the Pista sa mga Parol unfolds and opens to all creative Boholanos who will represent their respective Local Government Units (LGU) in a provincewide lantern-making contest. Each LGU may be represented with 3 entries. It should be a parol using indigenous materials (such as fiber, grass, reeds, and other native raw materials), scrap or junk and other found items (like empty plastic bottles, newspaper, carton boxes), CCAD head Enriqueta Butalid said.

All entries should employ lighting aesthetics, should have the minimum size of 1 meter in diameter, and should carry Filipino concepts, she added. Deadline of registration is on December 16, 2006 at CCAD office at the Old Capitol building. The panel of judges will view and score the entries at the Plaza Rizal on December 18 using the following criteria; concept and design – 25%, craftsmanship – 25%, uniqueness – 20%, lighting aesthetics – 20% and presentation -10%. First prize winner gets P 10T, 2nd prize gets to the winner P8T while the 3rd prize winner will have P5T. Ten consolation prizes will be given at P 2.5T each.
