Baby gets a “Gift of Life” |
AS thousands perished in the fateful World Trade Center bombing September 11, 2001, a Filipino baby with a serious heart ailment was given a new lease on life. Baby “Nyah” Nehemiah Tagayuna from Maribojoc, Bohol , then nine months old was accepted by Gift of Life, Inc. of New York through the Save-a-Child program of the Rotary District 7250 as their miracle baby. Nyah's hour-operation done on the fifth floor of the state university of New York Health Service Center in Syracuse happened while the bigger part of the US cowed in fear of a bomb attack that left the twin towers ablaze. Even then, doctors could not stop the operation despite advisories that the hospital's upper floors need to be evacuated. Baby Nyah is turning 6 December 4. Nyah, now a healthy five-year-old toddler who is living with her parents Nanette and Bredrick in Maribojoc. She is presently a kindergarten at the Royal Christian School , while being a joy in her community. Nyah's parents, now realizing that a brighter future awaits her raises her like a special child given a new life. |
