Talibon launches innovative nutri campaign for a change

NOT resting on its laurels, Talibon continues to look for innovation to promote nutrition among its residents. Now more than ever, the town goes for the communal dimension of bayanihan in a rather unique fund raising program for nutrition. Even with the National Nutrition Council of the Philippines award and the highest being “The National Honor Award”', Talibon decides there is no stopping until everything is in. A Hall of Famer for Nutrition, the Municipal Nutrition Council of Talibon, headed by the Hon. Mayor Juanario Item, launches July 3, the “Sinsilyo mo, Kahimsog Ko”, movement, their innovation. The movement has three major components: fund raising, actual feeding of the malnourished children of Talibon and charity-in-action habit formation for all Talibon residents, adults and children alike.

The SK movement now calls and encourages everybody to give their loose change to feed he malnourished children of Talibon. “Sinsilyo mo, Kahimsog ko!” (SK) movement is year-long and town-wide fund raising. “SK” sealed boxes will be distributed throughout the municipality. It would be deposited in the municipal hall, barangay halls, national offices, business establishments and classroomsinto which the “sinsilyos” will be dropped for weekly or biweekly collection. The “sinsilyos” will be duly receipted and properly accounted for. As soon as the amount collected will be enough for supplementary feeding of he malnourished children for at least three consecutive months, feeding will be conducted.

Priority will be given to the elementary school or high school with the most number of malnourished pupils or students. Actual feeding will be conducted by the school heads with their respective home economic teachers and the active participation of the pupils in the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) classes. The parents of the malnourished school children will be tapped also to support and cooperate in the schools' feeding and nutrition related programs. The municipal nutrition council hopes that Talibon's titular supporter will bless this endeavor and the rest of the MNC's activities for nutrition until malnourishment becomes a virtual no problem.
