The future waits with the Easter of hope, Lim says

B.Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim says a bright future awaits those who learn from the lessons of the Easter of hope. Lim issued the call in his Easter message aired yesterday. “One of the main reasons why we do not succeed is our tendency to keep bringing up our failures,” Lim said.

Drawing parallels from the history of the Christian faith, Lim pointed to the disciples' resolve to bury the shame of their Good Friday conduct where they deserted Jesus. Instead of dwelling on their failure to stand up for Jesus in His most trying moment, the disciples decided to move on. This was turning point in their lives. “After Easter Sunday, they dedicated the remaining days of their lives to the spreading of the gospel. In just 2,000 years, the Christian faith grew to become the biggest, if not the most influential religion in the world,” he pointed out. Lim said the present time is “like the Black Saturday in our history”.

“We are saddened by the events of the past, but it is more sad if we keep going back to the Good Fridays of our failures and defeats,” he added. Like the apostles, the mayor said that Filipinos should not stop with looking back at the lessons of the past. “There is nothing more we can do by bringing up the Good Fridays of our neglect in our responsibilities, about selling our votes during elections, about choosing officials who only enrich themselves while in power,” he noted. Lim said that the betrayal of conscience during elections and the daily disregard for duties and responsibilities are among the main reasons for the Filipino's miseries.

In a country where Christians compose the majority, Lim said the Easter message of hope is relevant. “The hope over the resurrection of Christ is the hope that Filipinos should embrace as we face the difficult days ahead,” he added. The mayor said that if the people will apply this in their lives, people can expect change in the city and even in the country. “Whatever difficulties we face at present, whatever the present state of our community, whoever is standing in the way as an obstacle, they will not be able to prevent us if we have enough hope,” he added. Lim noted that both Japan and Germany rose from the smashing defeats in World War II to become economic giants in less than four decades. “If they were able to do that, there is no reason why we cannot,” he added.

Saying that Filipinos need to get over their past indifference and take full responsibility for their future. “Starting tomorrow, let us not allow any obstacle to progress to prevent our destiny with progress and our celebration over our Easter of our future success,” he added.
